Packaging Design & Illustration
Rice has been a staple food for many years, a basic food that many ages and cultures enjoy. For this reason I chose to delve into how to create a unique selling point based on functionality of the packaging to stand out from competitors in the market.
Project Overview
Rice needs to be stored in an airtight container to protect it from moisture and contaminants. This information combined with the results of primary research urging the need for resealable containers, encouraged the design of the new packaging, TetraPak cartons.
The improved packaging of the &Rice products will remove the need for users to move rice to an airtight container from the bag it was purchased in, a unique function compared to the other brands of rice in South Africa.
&Rice was a brand I created for this project. The brand aims to still market the product as a staple food, but make it more accessible for users to store and use, making it their go-to choice for every meal. The illustration used on the packaging depicts a table filled with dishes ready to be served and shared. This imagery aims to evoke the feeling of warmth and cosiness that creating your own meals and sharing this moment with others does.
